I have no heart.
I feel no love.
I feel no pain.
My tears are meaningless,
Hypocrites to their purpose.
My smiles express false sentiment,
Facial expressions to hide the void.
You have suffocated my heart.
Not once.
Not twice.
So many times…
Until it fled, trembling and bleeding,
To depths
Where I cannot reach
To darkness
Where I cannot see the trail of blood
To silence
Where I cannot hear its dying gasps.
I am left here on a battlefield
- bloodless -
With a war waging around me
Standing motionless
Dispassionate to the blades burying deep
Ravenously searching for their sheath –
My heart.
And I laugh mirthlessly;
I have no heart.
And think of that little girl
Who sat crying,
Between her cupboard and the wall,
Gasping for air
As her heart was suffocating
